What Can You Do with a Base Size Minus Four Woven Wrap?

What can you do with a wrap that is your base size minus 4? Base minus four wraps are super short and easy to toss into a purse or diaper bag in case you need to do a quick carry.  I love to bring a base minus four wrap along with me when I expect my child will want to walk, but want to have a carrier just in case my child gets tired.

Slipknots!

The key to loving a short wrap is learning to tie a slipknot, so we’ll start off with a slip knot tutorial!

This video includes tips for adjusting and tightening your slipknot:

Traditional Sling Front or Hip Carry

Traditional sling carry is a fantastic carry.  This carry uses a slipknot which makes it easy to adjust.  You can pretie it and pop baby in and out as needed.  You can even leave it tied and have it ready to go.  All you need to do is slip it over your head and pop in baby.

Traditional Sling Back Carry

Traditional Sling Back Carry is a comfortable one shouldered back carry. It’s just like the front/hip carry above, but on the back.  This wonderful video is by Tandem Trouble:

No Sew Ring Sling

You can also use a pair of sling rings to create a ring sling without any sewing.  This is a nice alternative to traditional sling carry if you don’t like tying slipknots.  This also sometimes works in a wrap as short as base size minus give.

Simple Hip Carry

Simple hip carry is a quick carry that creates almost a pouch sling with a knot in the back and is a great fast option for a hip carry. This carry takes very little wrap length and can be done with a base minus five wrap.  This video is by Tandem Trouble:

Flat Reef Knot

The secret to loving Simple Hip Carry is tying a flat reef knot. This video by Babywearing with Kathy shows how to tie this knot:

Ruck Tied under the Bum

This is a quick one layer back carry that works well with older babies and toddlers.  This one is also lovely with a flat reef knot, but a regular double knot works too.

Once you’ve tried these, check out the Base size minus 3 carries.  You may find you’ll be able to do some of the base size minus 3 carries with your base size minus four wrap, especially if you are wrapping a younger baby or working with a thin wrap.  I hope you have a lot of fun playing with your short wrap and find a carry that works well for you!
