Slip Knot Photo-Tutorial

Slipknots are really key to loving short woven wraps. If you can do a slipknot in your woven wrap, you will be able to do a ton of really wonderful short wrap carries!

To begin, you will have one tail over your shoulder and one tail under your shoulder. In this tutorial, the “over the shoulder tail” will be called the “slipping tail.” In all of the images, the slipping tail is dark blue. The “under the shoulder tail” will be called the “working tail.” In all of the images, the working tail is light blue. I call this tail the working tail, because this tail does all of the work of tying the knot. The other tail simply hangs straight down.

Step 1: Cross the working tail over top of the slipping tail.

Step 2: Bend the working tail under the slipping tail and bring it up toward your face.

Step 3: Allow the working tail to hang straight down. It should be closer to your midline than the slipping tail.

Step 4: Bend the working tail and bring it under the slipping tail, leaving a little gap.

Step 5: Bring your hand through the gap and take hold of the working tail.

Step 6: Bring the working tail through the gap.

Step 7: Now your knot is tied! To tighten the knot, hold the knot between your index and middle fingers and pull both parts of the working tail across your chest.

Step 8: This knot will slide up and down on the slipping tail. To slide the knot, hold on to the slipping tail. While holding the slipping tail, you can push the knot up or down to adjust.
